Talented dramatist, actor and filmmaker, Jackson Anthony is present his second sinhala movie about historical epic. It name called 'Aba' is the historical story of Prince Pandukabhaya. He is very popular historical hero in Sri Lankan history. He brought all clans in the country to under the one rule.

By the Jackson Anthony is said about this film:

[" The story for my film is set in the 4th Century BC. It is about the rise the of Ruhunu dynasty and the childhood of kind Pandukabhaya. As a child he was called Aba and the story unds up to the age he becomes ‘Pandukabhaya’. There is a belief that originally Sri Lankan started from ‘Vijaya’ but by the time Vijaya came to Sri Lanka there were over hundreds of civilizations around the country. People of these civilizations existed lond after that event and even the present generation carry their genes. The story of the film is a fact which even rock inscriptions of the period of the Ruhunu Kingdom bear proof.

We saw this with the recent box office Hollywood films like “The lord of the ring” Harry Potter” or even the animation films like “Ice Age” These fall into the category of family films. Earlier the definition for the family films were stories that revolve around the issues of family. But this has changed now. "

[" Nationalism and racism are two completely different concepts. Nationalism is something very positive whereas racism is a virus. But unfortunately, in our society nationalism had been overtaken by racism and anybody with nationalistic feelings is labeled a racist. And these two have been misinterpreted as one. In fact this is one reason why the younger generation does not respect nationalistic ideas. We have to separate these two, but we cannot do this by war. Like a swan which can separate water from milk, I believe that it is only an artiste who could separate nationalism from racism from our society.

My attempt is not to boost the morale of the army and encourage war or to be a mouthpiece of those who propagate the virus of racism. In fact at the time of ‘Pandukabhaya’ there was no racial problem or ethnic differences yet he united all the clans like ‘Yaksha’ etc and brought them under one ruler. "

Veteran dramatist Jayalath Manoratne brings back 'Makara', Henry Jayasena's translation of renowned Russian author Eugene Schwartz's "The Dragon" nearly after twenty five years.

Henry Jayasena's translation of "The Dragon" written by the renowned Russian author Eugene Schwartz is the theme for "Makara". Makara is a mythical role. He commands his authority over a state. It is governed by brutal methods of fear, anxiety and killings. Brutal force is used against the citizens, who live in untold misery. As time goes by people get used to the style of living and think that it is better to have your own Makara who will safeguard them from any external Makaras. This scenario changes with the arrival of a courageous man Lancelot who decides to wage war against the brutal beast. He believes that the aspirations of the people could be achieved by destroying this dangerous evil.
The world famous Makara by the Russian Author Schwartz has put out a masterpiece by subtly drawing reality against supernatural, right against wrong, truth against myth, to touch the lives of societies of today. Though the story runs very naturally with ease of clarity it also has a deeper social analysis to it is substance."The theme in the play is eternal and suits every society including ours," Jayalath Manoratne said.
"The people are being harassed in every society and this is the eternal phenomenon," he added. While it brings a very serious theme, Makara is also a political satire. Jayalath Manoratne played key role as 'Pusa' when it was first produced by the veteran dramatist Henry Jayasena in 1973. In the present production he plays the role of 'Purapathi'.
Others to join in the cast are Jagath Chamila, Madhani, Malwattege, Paboda Sandeepani, Sampath Tennakoon, Sarath, Chandrasiri, Daya Edirisinghe, Ajith Lokuge, Susil Wickramasinghe, Malee Jayaweerage, Somapala Pathirage, Somasiri Kolambage and it is presented by Ceylon Biscuits Limited (Munchee). Makara is the second translated play by Jayalath Manoratne who earlier brought another Russian translation as "Puthra Samagama".
